Boston Red Sox 2013 Top Prospects

Bogaerts

1. Xander Bogaerts, SS: 20-year old stud has established himself as one of the top prospects in baseball. Plus tools at the plate while showing progress with his approach, his bat will play at SS or 3B. 

2. Jackie Bradley, Jr., OF: Polished all-around player with above-average tools and excellent approach at the plate, showed Boston execs he deserved to start on Opening Day.

3. Matt Barnes, RHP: With a plus fastball and secondary pitches that project at least above-average Barnes faded down the stretch after a blistering start. Should develop into a good No. 2 starter.

4. Allen Webster, RHP: A ground-ball pitcher with a plus sinking fastball, he needs to develop his command but the Sox believe he has what it takes to be a solid innings-eater in the Majors.

5. Garin Cecchini, 3B: A popular breakthrough candidate, has the tools to be a solid hitter at the next level. Probably won't steal 50 bases again but has 20/20 potential with above-average defense at 3B.

6. Blake Swihart, C: A personal favorite from the 2011 draft, has struggled so far at the plate in his pro career but scouting reports remain high. Projects to be above-average to plus defensively.

7. Bryce Brentz, OF: Tough player to project at the ML level. Will have his struggles initially but has the potential to hit 30 HR's for the Sox while playing a solid RF with a plus arm. 

8. Henry Owens, LHP: 6'7" lefty with deceptive delivery will need time to develop in minors, but has the potential to be a frontline starter with a fastball that he can run up to 94 MPH.

9. Deven Marrero, SS: Plus defender at short with the ability to steal bases should be good enough at the plate to be a solid regular. 

10. Ty Buttrey, RHP: Big 6'6" righty has plus fastball that tops at 96 MPH and a knuckle-curve that gives him another potential plus pitch. Development of change and command are going to decide his future.

Sleeper - Sean Coyle, 2B: Small compact player has a solid power/speed combo with an above-average glove. Needs to improve his plate discipline and approach but he has gotten off to a great start in 2013. 

Baltimore Orioles 2013 Top Prospects

Bundy

1. Dylan Bundy, RHP: The best pitching prospect in the game hands down at just 20 years old. Projects to be back in Baltimore by the end of the year and there's no looking back from there.

2. Kevin Gausman, RHP: Fourth overall pick in 2012, has a plus fastball/change combo. Has ace potential if he can refine his breaking ball.

3. Jonathan Schoop, 2B/3B: 21 year old shows a lot of promise at the plate with plus power. Has to refine his approach at the plate and improve defense, but is the most talented position player in system.

4. Eduardo Rodriguez, LHP: Young lefty has great command of above-average stuff and profiles as a solid No. 3 starter at the Major League level.

5. Nicky Delmonico, 1B: I doubt he will ever be a superstar, but he should give the O's solid offensive production from a corner infield position.

6. L.J. Hoes, OF: Possesses an outstanding approach at the plate with solid tools but will need to hit for more power to be anything more than a 4th outfielder.

7. Mike Wright, RHP: Underrated big righty has a solid four pitch mix that includes an above-average sinker/slider combo. Profiles as an innings-eating back-of-the-rotation type.

8. Branden Kline, RHP: Former UVA standout profiles as great bullpen arm with power fastball/curve combo, but will be developed as a starter for the time being.

9. Glynn Davis, OF: Plus-plus speed gives him value defensively and on basepaths, has potential to be a solid ML regular if he can refine his swing and add strength to wiry 6'3" frame.

10. Christian Walker, 1B: Advanced bat with outstanding on-base skills, only questions are if he will hit for enough power to profile at 1B. Gut feeling tells me he is going to be a solid middle-of-the-order hitter for several years.

Sleeper - Michael Ohlman, C: Once highly regarded high school prospect struggled mightily with bat and 50-game suspension in pro career. Came back from suspension and showed signs of why he was once so highly touted. Needs to show in 2013 that it wasn't a fluke to regain prospect status.

Atlanta Braves 2013 Top 10 Prospects

Teheran

1. Julio Teheran, RHP: Still top prospect in the system despite down year, still has frontline ceiling but needs serious work on curveball among other things.

2. J.R. Graham, RHP: Polished 23-year old shows great K/BB and GO/AO ratios and has a better chance of reaching No. 2/3 starter ceiling than Teheran.

3. Lucas Sims, RHP: 2012 1st-round pick has good polish for a prep pitcher to go along with power fastball.

4. Sean Gilmartin, LHP: Consistent lefty has ceiling of No. 3/4 innings-eater with plus-changeup. Has a chance to reach majors in 2013.

5. Alex Wood, LHP: 2012 2nd-round pick put up sensational numbers in Low-A last year with a funky delivery and just an average breaking ball. Could develop into mid-rotation starter or bullpen guy. 

6. Jose Peraza, SS: Raw toolsy athlete with potential to provide elite defense at SS with solid leadoff skills. Still a long ways from a finished product and is doubtful to develop much power.

7. Mauricio Cabrera, RHP: 19-year old has perhaps the highest upside in the system with mid-90's fastball and developing secondary pitches but has serious work to do on command and control.

8. Christian Bethancourt, C: One of the best defensive catchers in the minors has serious issues with the bat that could hold him from being anything more than a backup in the majors.

9. Tommy La Stella, 2B: Outstanding bat for 2B with an incredible eye (40:25 BB:K in 2012), has to show he can continue to hit consistently at higher levels.

10. Evan Gattis, C/OF: 26-year old has resurrected career after a number of years away from game. Will never be MLB-caliber catcher but has the power and athleticism to make it in the outfield.

Sleeper - Josh Elander, C: Above-average bat with plus power for a catcher, has the athleticism and arm strength to make it behind the plate but has a ton of work to do due to inexperience at the position. A move to the outfield would significantly lessen the impact of his offensive game.

Arizona Diamondbacks 2013 Top 10 Prospects

1. Tyler Skaggs, LHP: One of the best curves in the minors, should be in the majors at some point in 2013.

2. Archie Bradley, RHP: Elite stuff, should reach ace ceiling if he can improve control.

3. Adam Eaton, OF: Scrappy outfielder plays above his tools, could be starting CF on Opening Day.

4. Stryker Trahan, C: Powerful, athletic catcher impressed in pro debut. Would excel in OF if catching doesn't work out.

5. Matt Davidson, 3B: Power-hitting 3B is making strides with plate discipline troubles. 

6. Andrew Chafin, LHP: Lefty has some of the best stuff in system, needs to improve control of strike-zone.

7. Didi Gregorius, SS: Slick fielding SS acquired in Trevor Bauer trade, hitting remains a big question mark.

8. David Holmberg, LHP: Big, crafty lefty projects as a solid No. 4 innings-eating type.

9. Chris Owings, SS: Toolsy SS needs to improve plate discipline issues to make it to the majors.

10. Anthony Meo, RHP: Put up great strikeout numbers in 2012, could move to the pen due to command troubles and high-effort delivery.

Sleeper - Jake Lamb, 3B: Well-rounded prospect has all the tools to start in the majors.
